Wall murals of Hellissandur

“Most of the wall murals tell the stories and sagas of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula”.

Home of under 400 people, the small town of Hellissandur has earned the nickname of “The Street Art Capital of Iceland” due to the many murals found on various walls throughout the town. 

In the beginning of 2018, local artist Kári Viðarsson, got the idea of giving his hometown an inventive facelift. In collaboration with the local community and numerous international artists, over 30 big murals were painted on locations all over the town. 

Most of the wall murals tell the stories and sagas of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, making it just about the perfect stop for travelers before entering the Snæfellsjökull National Park, where many of the sagas took place in past times.
